Abstract
Abstract
This study is conducted to measure the Artistic
Creative Abilities of some selected post primary
students in Gongola State, A sample of 389 Form
and IV students (203 males and 186 females drawn from
some selected post primary schools in Gongola State
were used for the study. The standardised test of
visual perception - The Zaria Test of Artistic
Creative Abilities - ZAATA (Olorukooba (1981) was used
for the purpose of data collection. Two Hypotheses
were tested:
1) There will be no significant variation in the
correlation of the mean performances of the
students in all the test scales taking into
account the following:
a) sex differences,
b) age groups - 15-19 years, 20-29 years
and 30 years and above,
c) school type - Teachers’college/
secondary school.
2) There will be no significant difference in the
students nerformance in all the test scales taking
into account the following:
a) sex differences,
b) age groups,
c) school type.
The Data collected was analysed through the
use of spearman correlation i-iatric and Lruskal-
WalELis’ U significance Test (K-W's U). All
hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance.,
From the results of the study the following
results were obtained.
a) The overall performance of the students sampled
is somehow low.
b) There is no very significant variation in the
correlation of the student mean performance in respect
of sex difference and age groups. The only place where
there exists a variation is the school types sampled.
c) There is no significant difference in their
performance in respect of sex differences and age
groups, but the study proved that there is a
significant difference in their performance
considering the school type tested. The computation
shows that four tests out of the five conducted have a
very high level d of significance: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00,
and 0.01 respectively.
Based on the results of the analyses, certain
findings and recommendations were made to aid in
improving the standard of art teaching in order to
enhance creative development in schools.
