Abstract
Due Co the oxytetracycline's usefulness and availability,
its effect in a local food animal (Chicken: Gallus domesticus L)
was investigated, and the residual drug level in the tissues,
assessed.
Seventy-two young broiler-type chick (of both sexes) were
used for the experiment. They were herded in batches of 12 as
groups A - F. The groups were given feed (Sanders (R) miixed
with the Terratnycin (R) poultry Formula at 300, 200, 150, 50 and 0
g/ton for the groups A - F, respectively, and served water: at lib.
They were housed in a slat-litter partitioned illuminated cages,
and sacrifised at 3, 6, 9 and 12 weeks intervals. Analysis for
the oxytetracycline levels in the muscle, kidney, liver, fat,
intestinal contents and the blood were done; using ultravioletvisible
spectroscopy. The tissue samples were also evaluated
by thin layer chromatography and colour-spot-tests
