Music which is an aspect of Theatre plays significant roles in shaping the society. To this effect, this research concerns itself with the Nigerian indigenous music. The process of globalization has been of tremendous impact on Nigeria which has resulted in the Nigerian indigenous music being greatly influenced by the dictates of progression in the international scene due to global communication and cultural flows. This has reduced the patronage of the Nigerian indigenous music drastically despite several efforts made since independence to curb the influx of foreign content. However, with the deregulation of the broadcast industry in 1992, a code was enacted to guide broadcast content. Radio stations in particular were authorized to air Eighty percent of local content yet; there seem to be a flood of western music content over local/indigenous music as a result of the commercial nature of the industry. It is based on this problem that study sought to assess the extent to which Capital 90.9FM, Kaduna has lived up to this expectation. The study adopted both the qualitative and quantitative method of gathering data to arrive at the findings of the study. In-depth Interviews, Documentary Observation and a total of 355 copies of questionnaire were distributed in a particular location in Kaduna State called Narayi Highcost concerning their perception on the extent to which Capital 90.9FM has promoted our indigenous music. Findings show that Capital 90.9FM has not really complied with the National Broadcast Code concerning the airing of local content with emphasis on indigenous music. The study also discovered that there exists a communication gap on what the aim of the local content is meant to achieve which has led to a conflict between the policy makers and the Station. The implication lies in the fact that Local content has not been understood and well handled. This study advocates that policy makers and implementers synergize so that the local content will be better understood and handled. Nigerian artistes should also learn to return to their roots by composing songs that reflects our local language, local colour, philosophy and folklore. This is because music which is an aspect of Theatre has been and is still a means of defining our identity as Nigerians.en_US
