TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE BANKING INDUSTRY.

Abstract
Management training and development sets out to remove performance deficiencies; this research therefore will focus on assessing how staff in organisations view their training and the extent to which it has helped to improve their performance. In carrying out this study, U.B.A. PLC was chosen. Employees were found to have consideration improved on their performance, after undergoing both externally conducted and in-company training programmes. It was found that a significant relationship exist between training, employee commitment to their job and performance. The conclusion from the cases is that training and development are generally regarded as instrumental in the achievement of organisational objectives. They make employees effective in the performance of their jobs by bridging the ability-gap of where they and where they ought to be. They do create in the employee the feeling that the organisation is interested in their welfare and achievement and thus productive.
