This research thesis is on an evaluation of the Sources of Local Government Revenues: A case study of Keffi Local Government Council of Nasarawa state. The rationale for the study is to examine the sources of the local government council revenues and discuss other untapped or inadequately tapped internal sources of revenue available to Keffi Local Government Council. The study is also to determine the effects of sourcing and mobilizing financial resources for the growth and development of the council and its inhabitants in the context of a changing policy environment. The study recognised that one of the main causes of the failure of the local government system is lack of adequate funds to carry out development projects at the grass roots. Most of the Revenue accruing to local government councils is only enough to be expended on over-heads. As a result, there is no capability to function very well coupled with poor performance, neglect of functions, low administrative efficiency and revenue generation potentials. The study also used an econometric method of analysis (Multiple Regression) to determine the relationship between local governments total expenditures and its total revenues. The overall results shows that the total expenditure of the local government is depended on the local councils total revenues. There is high level of correlation between the dependent variable (total expenditure) and the independent explanatory variables (internal revenues, federal statutory revenues and grants) which is the council's total revenues. In summary therefore, the thesis has examined the existing sources of local government revenues, made recommendations on them and suggested some new sources.en_US
